Diaper Change

by Sarah Green

No matter how excited or how open minded any man is, there is one thing that strikes fear in their hearts, even if they won’t say so. When it comes time to do a diaper change for the first time, many men are very, very afraid. It’s not a fault, really, it’s a matter of not knowing what to do, and knowing that perhaps nothing is more delicate and fragile than a newborn baby. A diaper change does not have to be scary, even if some of the stuff you find in the diaper might indeed frighten you.

If your husband seems reluctant to do a diaper change, it may not be because he is lazy or unwilling to help. It may just mean he’s afraid of doing it wrong, or even afraid he may do something to harm the baby. You should take the time to show your husband how easy a diaper change can be, and that they won’t harm your baby. No matter how confident your husband may be in all other aspects of his life, he may feel the same fear you do when it comes to a newborn. They are so tiny, yet they are an awesome responsibility. When it comes right down to it, nothing will ever be as challenging as feeling confident in all you do for your kids, even if it is something as simple as a diaper change.

One part of the diaper change that may confuse your husband is what to use. There are so many different products on the market for diaper rashes, and for protection against wetness, that even moms have trouble knowing what to do. Make it very simple for them. If you like to put something on every diaper change, make sure you are clear on what it is and how much to use. This will take a lot of mystery out of the pile of products you may have sitting there.
