Many baby girl dresses do not take comfort into consideration. The outfits for infants may be appealing to the eye but they are not appealing to a small child’s sensitive skin. Rough, stiff fabrics that do not move with the infant can lead to an unhappy experience. If the fabrics on the baby girl dresses feel rough to your hands, they will definitely feel rough on an infant’s skin. Stiff lace and tight elastic can leave tell-tale signs that the outfit is uncomfortable. Many parents find markings and indentations on their child’s skin when she wears certain baby girl dresses. These uncomfortable components can be sought out while you are shopping. Checking the arms, neck and waistbands for tight elastic is usually good practice when shopping for baby girl dresses. I learned my lesson the hard way. I bought an adorable yellow dress for my daughter’s first professional photography session. My first mistake was buying the outfit without really feeling the fabric. If I would have felt the rough taffeta that was going to be next to the baby’s skin, I would have kept shopping for more comfortable infant attire. The second mistake I made was waiting until I got to the photography studio to put the dress on my daughter. I had a feeling that things were not going to run smoothly by the expression on the professional photographer’s face. She took one look at the outfit and her face turned to stone. When she asked if I brought along any other baby girl dresses for the session I answered her with a decidedly relieved affirmative. She asked if we could save the dressy dress for last and I complied. I was so glad that I took her advice. The first group of shots was met with delightful smiles and coy expressions that only an infant possesses. The photographer captured the rare images perfectly. Then we put her in the yellow outfit. My daughter’s mood completely changed. She struggled and cried and just wouldn’t sit still when wearing the outfit. We got one acceptable picture and quit right then and there. After that incident, I keep the stiff dresses for girls as decoration in my daughter’s room. She likes to look at them but she hates to wear them. |
